Krosno Odrzańskie is mentioned for the first time in the chronicle of Bishop Thietmar of Merseburg. In the years 1005 and 1015, the battle of Krosno between Bolesław Chrobry with Henry II took place. After the death of Bolesław Krzywousty, in 1138 Krosno is part of the Silesian district. In 1238 Henryk I the Bearded dies in the local castle in Krosno. In the 17th century members of the Wittelsbach family were staying in the city. The town and the castle were located on the left bank of the Oder.
As a result of the activities of the Second World War in 1945, the city was burned and almost 70% of the buildings were destroyed. After the war, the city center moved to the right bank of the Oder.

Krosno Odrzańskie po raz pierwszy wymienione jest w kronice biskupa Thietmara z Merseburga. W roku 1005 i 1015 miała miejsce bitwa pod Krosnem Bolesława Chrobrego z Henrykiem II. Po śmierci Bolesława Krzywoustego, w roku 1138 Krosno wchodzi w skład dzielnicy śląskiej. W 1238 w tutejszym zamku w Krośnie umiera Henryk I Brodaty. W XVII wieku w mieście przebywali członkowie rodu Wittelsbachów. Miasto i zamek znajdowały się na lewym brzegu Odry.
W wyniku działań II Wojny Światowej w 1945 roku miasto zostało spalone a niemal 70% zabudowy uległo zniszczeniu. Po wojnie centrum miasta przeniosło się na prawy brzeg Odry.
